3/3 Advanced Knife Skills at 12noon $100

For the dedicated home chef, Knife Skills are just the beginning of culinary exploration. In this class, we’ll take basic knife skills one step further to include basic butchery. Join us on this Sunday afternoon to break down a whole chicken into eight parts and to filet a whole fish. You can even take home the fruits of your labor for Sunday’s supper! Intermediate knife skills are strongly encouraged for this class.

Class is limited to 6 guests

3/3 Afternoon Wine Study: Pinot Noir at 4pm $100

Known as a winemaker’s grape, pinot noir has long been seducing wine lovers everywhere with its delicacy and versatility. Taste and compare pinot noirs grown throughout the world as we explore this grape’s popularity and prevalence, the major regions in which it grows, and the foods with which it best pairs.

3/5 An Evening in Paris at 7pm $145

To some, Paris is viewed as the most romantic city in the world. To others, like Team Stir, it is viewed as a culinary mecca and comfort food capital. Join us for an evening to pay tribute to the classic bistro food that doesn’t hold back on butter and soothes our souls. Items will include classic bistro salad, moules frites and quiche. Our Parisian bistro menu will be paired with classic French bistro wines and music.

3/6 Armchair Travel to Sardinia at 7pm $145

Journey to an island where the culture has remained relatively unaltered for centuries: Sardinia. Sardinian inhabitants move at a relaxed pace and enjoy life through multi-hour meals filled with family, friends, and wine. Savor the rustic cuisine of Sardinia, where meals are prepared based on home grown ingredients, where roasting a suckling pig is the height of celebration, and where olive oil and mullet bottarga rule the table.

3/7 Vermont Cheese & Beer at 7pm $145

In this class, we will armchair travel to the Green Mountain state and spend some time with our artisanal neighbors to the north. Join The Butcher Shop’s Cheese Buyer, Sarah Marshall, and Beer Buyer, Heather Brulte, on a cheese and beer pairing journey that features products from the great state of Vermont. Sarah will highlight some of Barbara Lynch Gruppo’s favorite cheese producers, including Jasper Hill Farm, and will also educate the class on various farms and their contribution to the Vermont cheese movement. Heather will speak in depth about some of her favorite Vermont breweries and speak of the brilliant minds behind some of our favorite producers.

3/10 Classic Sunday Dinner at 6pm $145

Join us at Stir for our version of Sunday Dinner. In this class we will cook a Berkshire pork roast and a rustic lasagna loaded with gravy. Our chefs will also demonstrate how to truss, season and roast chickens so you can duplicate these techniques in your home kitchen. This family style dinner will be accompanied by carafes of red and white and music by Luciano Pavarotti.

3/11 Wine Class: Our Menu at The Movies at 7pm $145

The Butcher Shop’s Steve Gilarde and his wife Kate Gilarde, Assistant Wine Director of Barbara Lynch Gruppo, love food, wine and movies. Not surprisingly, some of their favorite movies have iconic scenes centered around food and wine. Join us as we enjoy a menu loosely inspired by some scenes from our favorite movies including Italian-American flicks like Godfather I, Goodfellas and The Big Night.

3/12 Elegant Entertaining with Chef Barbara Lynch at 7pm $250

Entertaining has long been the burden of many home cooks because more time is spent in the kitchen than with their guests. On this night, join Chef Barbara Lynch and learn how to create elegant and refined cuisine for you next occasion and learn the valuable lessons of how to prepare your meals ahead of time to free yourself up for fun with your guests.

3/13 Casual Entertaining with Chef Barbara Lynch at 7pm $250

Chef Barbara loves to throw parties. Discover her secrets for hosting relaxed get togethers that feature fabulous food and cocktails, but are easy enough so that you – the host – can enjoy the party too.

3/14 Cookbook Class: Harvest to Heat with Siena Farms at 7pm $165

In Harvest to Heat, authors Estrine & Kelly Kochendorfer feature today’s acclaimed chefs and highlight the strong bond they have with their local farmers, fisherman, cheese makers, and artisans. Our own chef Barbara Lynch collaborated with Farmer Chris of Siena Farms for the Harvest to Heat Cookbook. Stir is thrilled to collaborate with Siena Farms Store Manager Trevor Sieck to present an evening inspired by true Farm to Table cooking in New England. Trevor will include a primer on what to plant in your home garden as well as what to do with your CSA boxes throughout the year. Recipes for this class will be original and a Harvest to Heat cookbook is folded into the price of the class for upcoming inspiration in anticipation of the 2013 Farmers Market Season.

A copy of Harvest to Heat is included in the price of this class.

3/16 Chef’s Table Dinner at 7pm $165

At dinner parties it seems that everyone ends up in the kitchen, while in restaurants, curious guests get a look at the action at the coveted Chef’s Table.  On Friday evenings, Stir hosts a Chef’s Table as an entertaining alternative to a typical night out.  Socialize, sip, and pick up a few cooking tips as you and your tablemates sample an elevated progression of small plates highlighting the local and seasonal produce from Siena Farms South End and accompanied by impeccably paired wines.  A very special dining experience, the Chef’s Table provides the warmth of an intimate space and the energy of an open kitchen.

3/17 Sunday Irish Breakfast at 12noon $105

Enjoy a traditional Irish family pastime on the day where everyone is Irish: St. Patrick’s Day. From blood sausage to stout, recover from the revelries of the week and discover how this meal developed and has been adopted and adapted by Americans. In this class we will discuss various topics such as why the Irish sing about whiskey on Sundays.

3/18 Armchair Travel to Lyon at 7pm $145

The sprawling southern city of Lyon is known as the gastronomic capital of France. Every year, gourmands from around the world travel to the city’s Michelin-starred restaurants and enjoy a plethora of pork dishes, offal, and a wide variety of produce available year round. Stir will showcase Lyon’s culinary reputation with hearty, traditional fare and pay tribute to one of our favorite chefs, Daniel Boulud, who is native to this vast culinary capital.

3/19 All About Pasta at 7pm $145

Ethereal gnocchi, toothsome fettuccine, delicate stuffed pasta; it’s all about technique when making fresh pasta. In this class, our chef will teach guests how to transform a few ingredients into something transcendent.  In addition to seasonally inspired sauces, you’ll be able to master pasta at home with all of the tips from our chef during this class dedicated to the passion for pasta.

Food is a large part of Greek culture and learning about its evolution, historical preparation, and regional specialities is truly a unique experience. Cuisine that comes to mind when daydreaming about Greek cuisine are fish, leafy greens, citrus, olives, fresh herbs and grains. Join us for a four course meal of Greek dishes including Avgolemono, a traditional greek lemon soup. At the conclusion of class we will raise a glass of Ouzo and cheers to this culinary paradise.

Umami, a term roughly translatable to a pleasant savory taste, is now a certifiable word used to describe a very particular type of taste. In this class, explore and enjoy foods high in umami components and gain insight as to why this taste has been overlooked for so long. Discover how to increase umami in food and which wines have umami characteristics and pair best with the umami food group.

3/25 Wine Class: California Dreamin’ at 7pm $185

California dining goes far beyond In-n-Out Burger and “spa” cuisine. The Golden State supplies 80% of the fruits and vegetables in the country and is home to gastronomes who have revolutionized the way America eats and drinks. California is the birthplace of farm to table dining and open kitchens and is the home to many food and beverage pioneers such as Alice Waters and Kermit Lynch. In this class, we will explore the culturally diverse patchwork of the state and explore its vineyards, restaurants and historical influence on the American dining scene.

3/26 The Cuisine of Mexico at 7pm $145

While taco trucks to margarita bars have excited the taste buds of Americans for years, Mexican fare has roots far deeper than what you might images. In this class, we’ll get back to the heart of Mexican cuisine, highlighting the freshest of ingredients, slow cooked sauces, masa, mescal and other classics from our neighbors to the south.

3/27 Food, Wine, and Literature with Christine Milam at 7pm $185

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

Considered by many to be his greatest novel, Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises explores the lost generation, a group of American and British expatriates coping with life after World War I, and their journey from the seedy cafés of Paris to the bullfighting ring in Pamplona. Travel with us and discover the culture of food, drink, fishing, and excess in France and Spain during the roaring twenties.

3/28 Bacon for Every Occasion at 7pm $145

Seemingly in a food group of its own, bacon has been charming food lovers for generations. If you are under its spell, enjoy a meal that features the crispy, crunchy, salty treat we all crave in new, inventive, and imaginative ways.
